| When people have difficulties getting pregnant they often turn to prescribed fertility drugs. While these drugs have assisted many couples with having the baby they have long wanted, many other couples have experience negative side effects from these drugs. ![]() The most widely prescribed fertility drug is clomifene citrate (or clomiphene), commercially sold and marketed as Clomid, Serophene or Milophene. Clomid corrects your hormone balance by enhancing the probability of ovulation. It is typically taken in the form of a pill. This drug produces side effects that include stomach pains, breast tenderness, upset stomach or vomiting, blurred vision, headaches, and decrease in energy. Additionally, some women have changes in mood, irritability, and at times, depression. Gaining weight is another occasional side effect, as is a higher possibility of getting ovarian cysts. Additionally, vaginal dryness is a potential side effect. This can be alleviated with sperm-friendly, vaginal lubricant or jelly. Clomid’s success rate is not high because of poor egg quality, however, it may lead to increased chance of multiple pregnancies. A different drug that you may be prescribed for an imbalance in the hormone prolactin is Bromocriptine, sold commercially as Parlodel. This can be taken one of three ways: in tablet form, as a capsule, or as a vaginal suppository. Some possible side effects of Bromocriptine include nausea, dizziness caused by a decrease in blood pressure, headaches, stuffy nose and dry mouth. When taking Bromocriptine you may also find you suffer from drowsiness and the tendency to fall asleep, so you should be careful about what activities you are doing when taking the drug. The success rate for the drug is not high, but the lowering of prolactin levels can be beneficial for women who suffer from an imbalance of this hormone. It is clear that it is possible to use fertility drugs to get pregnant, but these artificial substances have numerous side effects as well. If you are experiencing difficulty conceiving, you should consider using a natural whole-body alternative instead of taking these drugs. When you use natural substances to achieve fertility, you are balancing your hormones in a completely benign way by increasing the health of your liver and cleansing your body of toxins. You may not know that your liver is a key player in balancing your hormones. When you do a whole-body cleanse, you increase your liver’s effectiveness. You also give all of your other organs - kidneys, colon, and reproductive - a boost. Along with body cleansing, you may want to give some herbal remedies a try. “FertilPlus” is an excellent herbal remedy that comes in two formulas - one for women and one for men. “FertilPlus” is made of plant compounds that have been scientifically proven to help increase sperm production and ovulation and to balance hormone levels in men and women. I hope this article provides you with some information about the safer alternatives to fertility drugs that exist.
